Service History

Mogami was the lead ship of a class that pushed treaty limits, mounting an exceptionally heavy battery. After damage at the Battle of Midway, she was rebuilt as an aircraft cruiser, replacing her rear turrets with a seaplane deck.

She fought at Leyte Gulf in 1944, where she was crippled by air and surface attack and finally scuttled by her own forces.
