Service History

USS Fletcher gave her name to a class of 175 destroyers — the backbone of the US Navy's destroyer force in the Pacific. They were large, well-armed, and tough, balancing guns, torpedoes, and anti-submarine weapons.

Fletcher herself fought in numerous Pacific actions, including the grueling Guadalcanal campaign, screening carriers and battling Japanese surface forces in night actions.
